I am listening to music that I played over and over during college and I decided I’m going to give “old school blogging” a try. I have the energy for old school blogging, where I post about my day, instead of trying to figure out if what I am writing offers value.
We began social distancing on March 13th when the US was declared a national emergency. We went out to eat that night in shock at an Italian restaurant and then we tried to figure out our new normal. I can’t believe that tomorrow is the beginning of June.
Our state is now in phase 1 of reopening. As someone who is immunocompromised, this actually won’t change much for me. We’re planning on still staying home, still grabbing take out food, and limited interactions with people. However, it feels nice to feel like things are moving forward. Our next door neighbors told us today that their child’s principal sent a letter home explaining school probably won’t be normal this fall. We’ll see.
This is what I’m accomplished during quarantine. I’ve had plenty of lazy days too, but when it comes down to it, a lot has happened to be proud of too.

- I’ve read or listened to over 20 books. The first book I finished after the pandemic started was I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.
- I’ve done a lot of genealogy.
- I’ve learned how to be more creative in keeping Evie entertained, happy, and learning. I’ve also survived multiple toddler shark bites.
- I’ve updated a lot of SEO, photos, and Pinterest images for my blog. I also installed and set up new wordpress theme.
- I learned how to play Minecraft. While this may not be super useful, it has provided a lot of entertainment during nap and bed times. We’re now on the hunt for a Nintendo Switch because I think playing Animal Crossing would be really fun.
- I’ve done more zoom mama chats than I can count, which has also made me realize Evie can run very fast.
- I hosted a completely online baby shower, complete with games! It honestly made my teacher heart very happy. I realized I would totally be okay with teaching online ESL classes, if it was a group setting.
- I advocated enough for myself to finally get more autoimmune diagnoses. This is both annoying and happy because I have been symptomatic and telling doctors about the symptoms for years.
- I bought my first “helper hair” piece. I found it both liberating to just look like myself. Also, I was really pumped about how it was a perfect color match on the first try.
- I’ve watched so many tiktok videos that I play the songs in my head as I see different situations throughout the day. “Don’t be suspicious, don’t be suspicious… .”
- I organized a 30 day cleaning challenge. Lots of ladies participated, points were taken daily, and it helped me stay motivated to get my house back in order.
- I’ve gone on many walks as a family and have enjoyed spending so much time outside with Evie. We’ve especially enjoyed all of our neighbor’s flowers. The weather has been nice and this time last year we were focused on making community/ friendships. Now we’re just being where we are.
- I survived about 10 minutes of Tiger King, 3 episodes of Blind Love, and a whole season of Married at First Sight.
- I wrote out new goals for the year again because the circumstances have changed a lot. I’ll post these up later!
- I have explored a lot of home schooling curriculums, simply out of curiosity. Preschool is pretty expensive here so we might be doing preschool from home in the future.
- We did a drive through zoo safari with Evie.
- I successfully baked a loaf of bread from a starter and also my first loaf of bread from scratch. I’ve never really been a baker so this is great!
- I’ve also baked whole wheat biscuits, Texas sheet cake, and banana bread during quarantine. I’ve tried and made up a lot of new recipes too!
