the last 5 books I’ve read | #4

October 30, 2019books

This book round was much more successful than my last five books I read.  I can honestly say that I’d re-read 3/5 of these books, which is pretty impressive for me!  I’m looking forward to picking up more books from the library soon.

📚 Tuck Everlasting

I have been meaning to pick this book up for years.  I enjoyed the movie when I saw several years ago, but then forgot about it until recently.  I was really pleasantly surprised by this read.  Tuck Everlasting had the charm of a much older book, but was actually written in the 1960s.  There are old fairy tale quirks throughout and a cheesy villain.  However, I was 100% here for it.

📚 Beartown

I picked up this book for book club.  I really struggled getting through this book because everything really builds up around hockey (a sport I know nothing about).  However, people told me to wait because the book changes mid-way through… and it does.  This isn’t a book I think I could have finished without discussion.  There is a lot of density to this book and a lot of meaning.  Spoiler?  I think the main message was how different parenting styles end up impacting children throughout their lives.  The book is more than just about hockey.

📚 The Enneagram Made Easy

This is a very basic book about the enneagram with pretty simple descriptions and some cute comics   I probably recommend it to someone that doesn’t have a lot of time and wants to know basics, but it wasn’t my favorite.

📚 The Montessori Toddler: A Parent’s Guide to Raising a Curious and Responsible Human Being

I LOVED this book!  I have never really known much about Montessori methods, but wanted to because I love learning about different teaching theories.  The other part of me wanted to read this to have more skills in my toolbox before Evie has more toddler behavior.  I think this book honestly just has great parenting advice in general and I was really impressed with how much I learned.  I ended up organizing Evie’s toys in a Montessori style and plan on implementing what I learned throughout the book.  I honestly might re-read this book.

📚 The Road Back to You: An Enneagram Journey to Self-Discovery

I really loved this book as well!  I have listened to Ian Cron’s podcast on the same topic and really liked his interviewing and speaking style.  I found that I loved his audio book because he reads it as well.  This is the first time I’ve finished a book about the enneagram and felt settled about what type I am.  I feel like Cron does a great job highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of each type in an objective way.  I’d recommend this book to any enneagram lover or newbie.

The last 5 books I've listened to. I share my opinions and a short review on: Tuck Everlasting; Beartown; The Enneagram Made Easy; The Montesssori Toddler; & The Road Back to You. | via Autumn All Along
