I recently had a doctor’s application ask me what my job was and I found myself writing: stay at home mom. I found myself scratching my head because I’ve thought of what this would look like for a long time, but mostly it is pretty different than I thought. Our little girl will be four months soon and I know my schedule will end up changing many times during my parenting adventure. This is currently what my schedule as a stay at home mom looks like though.

6:30 AM
E wakes up for some food and will likely snooze for another 1-2 hours afterwords. Despite the photo above, she is still sleeping in a bassinet next to our bed. I end up changing her diaper and snuggling with her a little bit before I put her on Devin’s pillow and snuggle up next to her. If I was able to get some good sleep during the night, I wake up and start doing things around the house. However, most of the time, I need the sleep desperately haha.
8:30 AM
I get E ready for the day in a new outfit and put on an outfit for the gym if I didn’t sleep in one (seriously, the easiest way to wake up ready to go out). Evie and me eat breakfast and chat. When I finish up eating, I typically put her in a play seat and fold clothing or clean the kitchen. If she is pretty entertained, I go as quickly as I can. If she isn’t, every dish or two that I put up, I end up picking up a toy or smiling at her. If I’m folding clothes, I usually tickle her face with a shirt or something in between folding.
I usually clean or fold clothing until she has had it and has decided she needs out; that amount of time varies everyday, but there is a lot of snuggling and playing.
10:30 AM
I usually go to the gym at this time. On days that there is a music group at the library for babies, we go there and I do the gym later. However, I make gym time a priority because it helps me reduce my autoimmune inflammation. I feel more collected when I have some time to myself and E really loves going and seeing the other babies. I spent a few days debating on if a gym membership was worth it, but I’ve used the gym literally every day except Sunday since family has been out of town (which I’ve figured out gives me 48 hours of me-time a month).
I typically spend the first hour exercising or doing a class. I spend the second hour of childcare blogging; I chose this particular gym because they don’t mind what you do as long as you stay on campus (they have a restaurant, spa services, and showers nicer than anything I will have in my own house haha).
1 PM
We come home and eat lunch. During this time, I usually schedule doctor’s appointments or run errands. If there aren’t any of those, we end up playing on play mats together or snuggling. Sometimes we snuggle and if she sleeps, I listen to an audio book or nap with her.
3 PM
If Evelyn hasn’t taken a nap yet, I sometimes go walking with her. The movement helps her sleep, it helps me get some fresh air, and we have great trails around here. I usually end up listening to an audio book and play Pokemon Go while she is snoozing. Sometimes I introduce myself to neighbors on trails and we end up walking together for a bit. On the days that it isn’t nice outside, I take a nap with Evie at home or we play.
I go to the gym at this time if I have a morning meet up at the library or a walking group.
5 PM
I start figuring out what we’re going to eat for dinner. This usually means either heating up leftovers or texting Devin and asking him what he is interested in eating. We try to meal plan and I set baby in the bumbo with some toys while I work in the kitchen. If she is having a hard time or doesn’t want to sit for very long, Devin takes over when he gets home so I can finish cooking. We usually don’t end up eating until around 6 PM or sometimes later depending on when Devin gets home.

DINNER
We catch up as a family and eat food. Devin has pretty humorous coworkers so I end up listening to some pretty funny stories. I share E’s antics throughout the day. We seem to have a lot of animal memes or funny videos to show each other.
AFTER DINNER
We sometimes go grocery shopping as a family or we go on a walk together (I’m realizing how much I use our stroller now haha). We catch up on our day, catch up on TV shows, and take turns playing with E. We also hang out with our bird, Cosmo.
8:30 PM
We start getting E ready for bed. Devin likes to rock her to sleep and usually does that most nights while I pick up or put food away.
10 PM
We read scriptures, say a prayer, brush teeth, and I usually conk out. Devin usually helps with E if she wakes up before midnight. She is really off and on if she wakes up a lot, and if she does, she wakes up a lot from 1 AM until 5 AM. If she has been waking up a lot, then I go to bed earlier. On weekends, we switch who takes which shift.

My day isn’t glamorous, but I enjoy it. I’m often very sleep deprived. However, I know there are a lot of people who wish they could be in my position, with having a child or staying at home with their baby. If there is ever a time that baby falls asleep in my arms, I just sit back and enjoy it. If she ever wants to cuddle, I drop everything. I wear baby in a carrier on me as much as my back allows 😂.
I feel like it has taken every bit of my baby’s four months to figure out what my schedule as a stay at home mom looks like. Naps are still a struggle, but I think we’re going to get there soon. I didn’t realize how much she enjoyed the schedule until there were two days that it was thrown off and it wasn’t a very enjoyable day; little girl enjoys being on the move! I know my stay at home mom schedule will keep changing to meet her needs too, but it is fun to have our little groove right now. As always, I’m still learning.
