Quarter 2 | goals 2018

April 1, 2018growth

After some reader feedback, I decided to turn this into quarterly goals and updated this post.  I’ll do monthly life update posts or favorite posts instead as they fit into what I’d like to share.  Coffee with Summer recently made this change and I loved seeing how she formatted everything!

Monthly goals do a great job of helping me have some consistency.  I have especially needed that since I wasn’t unemployed.  Well, I am employed again now and I’m self-employed!  I feel like I have been a lot more productive because of this.  I’ve learned over the last few months that I am slightly on the extroverted scale.  The social energy I have received in the past from jobs helps me thrive.  Being unemployed the last few months has been a struggle for me.  I’ve loved what I have been able to accomplish, but with working now, I feel more confident that I can accomplish this without posting monthly.

This past month has included Devin working until 1 am almost every weeknight and with me being sick, but working again has just given me a lot more confidence.  I’m excited to start posting quarterly and show you even more updates I am accomplishing.

Review on my 1st quarter goals:

Since I ended up consolidating these quarter goals, this is a review of how I’ve done so far!

Simplify our home

  • Put all of our DVDs and CDs into an organizer
This made such a huge difference!  It ended up making three TRASH BAGS completely full!
  • Organize our main closets (linen, dining room closet, and our pie safe)
I started this process and took so much to the thrift store.  I’m not finished, but man, our main rooms are becoming so easy to clean; our bedrooms are still clutterfests.  Some people may wonder why I am getting rid of so much.  We will have been in our house for five years this summer and I feel like people should clean like they are moving every few years.  I think the comfort of living in the same home lets things accumulate and I have found the accumulation of clutter keeps my depression around.  I don’t want to be better about organizing, I want less stuff.  I’ve realized most of the things that I keep “trying” to organize over and over are just things I need to get rid of, honestly.  By the end of the year (but let’s be honest, before that), I would like to be able to clean my home within 30 minutes everyday.  I think that is totally doable.
  • Take 1 trip to the thrift store with things I am getting rid of
Did it!  However, I let it sit in my house for too long and I’m realizing that almost drove me bonkers.

Become healthier

  • Track what I am eating
I signed up for Weight Watchers and I use it in conjunction with MyFitnessPal.  I used Weight Watchers in the past, but I wasn’t in love because the old system so heavily docked protein.  A lot of the items that used to take up A LOT of my points, even though they were very nutrient dense and healthy, were only 200-300 calories; in the new system, these items are free!
  • Make a routine of exercise
I started off pretty badly, but I’m getting better.  I’m becoming more mindful of how much I move or don’t move.  However, this also always becomes easier with spring time.

Learn more

  • Read the scriptures routinely
I have done better this year than I have in years past so far, but I want to develop a better time schedule and routine.
  • Read church talks
I have read 9 so far.  If you count how many I listened to on conference weekend though, let’s be honest, that number would probably be easily over 30.
  • Read books
I read 16 books this quarter.  You can see what I thought about them here.
  • Sign up for my 3rd teaching license continuing ed class
I actually signed up for my 3rd and 4th!

Share/make content that means something to someone

  • Create my March word of the month video
  • Consistently publish on my blog
Some weeks, yes.  Some weeks, no.

Learn to really love Georgia

  • Devin’s busy season at work has been the worst it has ever been.  We were lucky to have our family photos taken this past month (first time in 6 years!).  I’m hoping to catch up with this summer.  These were the places we ended up visiting: the Autrey Mill Monkey Massacre monuments.

Looking forward to seeing what I can accomplish in the 2nd quarter of this year! šŸ’›
