I spend about 10 minutes daily on my hair and it is really awesome. I haven’t used a hair straightener since October when I received this hair cut. All of the above is because I finally found the perfect combination of hair products and tools for myself!
While my hair doesn’t look “perfectly coiffed”, I really enjoy the laid back wavy look much better for me. I wash my hair about 1-2 times a week and only spend about 15 minutes on my hair the days I wash it. I’ve loved this low maintenance routine I’ve come upon and I’ll likely keep up for a long time. These are my favorite grocery store hair products that make my life a lot easier 🙂 .
………………………………….
To start off, my hair is pretty fine and I have a blend of curly and wavy hair that straightens easily. My hair is naturally dry, thinner on top, and I have several cowlicks. I have a long layered long bob that is slightly asymmetrical, but without stacking in the back; all of my ends are razored which has always helped my hair be lighter so it holds curl better in humid climates.
- Comb
I use a comb everyday. I only ever use a brush when I blow dry my hair straight and then it is still pretty minimal. My husband and me both use this comb. When I am absent minded about his schedule, I always know he is traveling or staying overnight somewhere because the comb is gone out of our master bathroom 🤣. - Mane ‘N Tail shampoo and conditioner
I used this shampoo and conditioner in high school because all of the girls in my math class talked about it. When my hair became really thin because of autoimmune issues, I was having a hard time finding shampoo and conditioner without sulfates that didn’t make my hair oily (even fresh out of the shower). This shampoo and conditioner has never weighed my hair down, doesn’t have a strong scent, and doesn’t leave residue on my hair. I don’t think I will actually go back to expensive shampoo and conditioners again. - Sea salt texturizing spray
I love this product and it lasts a long time! The smell is light, but smells good and it never seems to dry out my hair. I like the texture and waves that it helps bring out in my hair. - Dry Shampoo
I used dry shampoo A LOT when my hair was really long, but I don’t use it as much anymore. Now, I use it to help prevent the humidity from making my hair damp after I dry it. It seems to really help with volume too! What I like about this specific brand is never makes my dark hair look white. A lot of other brands left a lot of residue on my hair. I’ve also had people stop me before and tell me that my hair smelled really good after I used this product. Win win. - Curl sculpt gel
I end up using this when my hair is straight, wavy, or curly. It is hands down my favorite hair product! It keeps my hair from ever being super frizzy. Other gels have made my hair really sticky, slow to dry, or clump my hair and this does none of that! - Boar bristle round brush
I only use a hairbrush if I blow dry my hair straight to get my hair to go where it is needed. I like the boar bristle brush because it always helps me have extra volume. If I am going somewhere special, I blow dry my roots with this brush to give my hair extra lift.
How I use my favorite grocery store hair products
Day 1 of my hair
How I fix my hair on day 1 with my favorite grocery store hair products:
- While my hair is wet, I work out any tangles with a fine toothed comb.
- I use my hands to blow dry my hair.
- When my hair is close to dry, I take a round brush and blow dry the front of my hair in different directions so my cowlicks are kinder to me.
- Once my hair is dry, parted the way I want it, I take a nickle sized dollop of my curling gel and run it through the ends of my hair to smooth it out.
Day 2-4 of my hair
How I fix my hair on days 2-4 with my favorite grocery store hair products:
I’ll be honest, I think my hair is on day 4 (or more) in the photo above. If my hair looks fine on any of these days, I don’t do anything with it except comb near the roots. I never use a hair brush except if I blow dry my hair that day. Otherwise, I just use my fingers and daily use a comb.
- If my hair is oily, I flip my hair down and spray dry shampoo near my roots and let it sit for a few minutes.
- I use a comb to tease up my hair near the roots or to slowly detangle any obvious tangles in my hair.
- I spray sea salt spray through my hair until it is damp.
- I scrunch my hair.
- I smooth out the ends with the curl sculpt gel.

I’ve had high maintenance hair and beauty routines before in the past. Humorously enough, there was a point early on in our marriage that Devin told me: “you know, I don’t mind if you just don’t do your hair or makeup.” I started laughing and explained I did it for me and not for him, but I appreciated the sentiment. It is hard to find someone that can cut your hair into something that is both low maintenance + something you truly love, and I’m definitely reaping the rewards of that right now. I’m getting my first haircut since October soon though so cross your fingers for me!
