I haven’t been super eager to read a book here lately, yeah, I know. I’ve been getting really into podcasts (I’ll have to share my favorites sometime soon) because I can clean etc. while I am listening to them. It looks like I might need to start getting into audio books for the same reason. Have any good suggestions on Audio Books? I’m all ears… ha ha … ha ha… bad pun 🙂 . Happy reading in May!
I loved reading this sentimental memoir from a family man’s perspective. This book was an easy and fast read that I finished within less than a day. As an animal lover, I really enjoyed this book and I definitely teared up several times as well as laughed pretty hard. The poor dog in the book was used as a bait dog for dog fighting and it was heart warming how Oogy bonded to his owners. Adoption is a theme throughout the book as both Oogy, the dog, and the sons of the author were adopted. I enjoyed the book a lot because it really described how I have felt when we have rescued animals or brought them home. I think this is a great book for your sappy friends who love animals.
A Mango-Shaped Space by Wendy Mass // 3 stars
I really enjoy reading a good young adult novel every once in a while. This particular book was interesting to me because 
the main character has a condition called synesthia; as a former special education teacher, I enjoy learning about neurological conditions. In this case, the main character has synesthia and words and numbers have colors, but the author does a great job sharing different types of synesthia. This book was easy to read, the characters were relate-able, and I appreciated that this book was truly appropriate content wise for young readers. I probably won’t find myself re-reading this one, but I would happily recommend it to people who like to learn about different conditions and any teenager I know!
Quest for a Maid by Frances Mary Hendry // 5 stars
I can easily say this is one of my favorite books. I found this book in my middle school library at 12, read it again in high school at 17, again at 23, and recently just reread it again! The story line never gets old and I always read the book in just 1-2 days. I’m happy that the author connected her other titles on Goodreads so that I saw she wrote more books!!
This book has it all: young adult, romance, historical fiction, fighting, and fantasy. The book is written in a Scottish dialect that becomes so natural to read and I love how the element of that really adds to the characters. Meg Wright, the main character, overhears her older sister kill the King of Scotland through witchcraft. This story ends up launching Meg into the middle of the drama: who can she trust??
