In 2016, I read over 23 books and still have my nose in a bunch of others. I have a goal to read more books in 2017, but I think some time should definitely be spent on the books that I am still thinking about months later 🙂 . These are my 8 favorite books in 2016.

- Blackmoore by Julianne Donaldson
I have absolutely loved every book I have read by Donaldson and I’m hoping to look for more. This is great if you love family friendly regency novels! 🙂 - The Secret to Hummingbird Cake by Celeste Fletcher McHale
This is McHale’s debut novel and it had me both laughing and crying within minutes. I’m looking forward to reading more from McHale in the future! - Without You, There Is No Us by Suki Kim
I only rated this as a 4 star book on my list and I think it is because the ethical issues I had with it. However, this book is really eye opening into North Korea. - Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children Boxed Set (1-3) by Ransom Riggs
This book series is so awesome! I’ve yet to see the movie yet, but the series is so unique and different from anything else I’ve read. I was completely glued to the series while it rendered me non-functioning and read it in less than a week. - A Fifty-Year Silence: Love, War, and a Ruined House in France by Miranda Richmond Mouillot
I love WW2 history and this was a really interesting insight to the granddaughter of a Nuremberg trial translator. She weaves through past and present to figure out family estrangement and has a really beautiful writing style. - One Hundred Birds Taught Me to Fly: The Art of Seeking God by Ashley Mae Hoiland
This is my favorite LDS book that I read this year. Hoiland has a very unique way of looking at the world and documenting it through essays. I would definitely give this as a gift. - The Actor and the Housewife: A Novel by Shannon Hale
As much as this made me scratch my head, I absolutely could not put it down. I know for a fact that I’ll be re-reading this one once I have forgotten details. - Midnight in Austenland by Shannon Hale
Hale is one of my favorite authors for both her humor and her writing style. I’d love to re-read this ones to pick up details I missed the first time around.
There were a few books that I ranked as 5 stars, but I wouldn’t want to read again because the topic was too intense. However, I’m pretty impressed with how many great books I read!
