a little about me

December 13, 2016life

I realized it has basically been a year and a half since I shared one of those “a little bit about me things.”  I really enjoy reading those on others and since I’ve been writing these up since I was 16, I like to look back at them and laugh.  I find it crazy how much different I look and how many changes I’ve made and experiences I’ve had even from when I started this blog up until now.

  1. I took it upon myself to stop wearing colors that Devin can’t see since he is colorblind when we became married.  I have no idea why because colors mean a lot more to me than they do Devin?  I stopped within the last year or two, which is great, because I really love the color green a lot.
  2. I really love walking with people and just talking.  I walk with people several times a week right now and have for a few months.  It keeps me from being inflamed with my autoimmune junk .
  3. My love language is quality time + words of affirmation.
  4. Every counselor I have had has told me I’m one of the most intuitive/perceptive people they have ever met.  They’ve also told me that I would be a good counselor which I find as a very nice compliment.
  5. People are very surprised at how uninhibited I am when I teach ESL.  People who have observed me after knowing me for a while always tell me they are shocked at how energetic, animated, and crazy I am while teaching.
  6. I get really addicted to phone games like Angry Birds and apparently now, Rodeo Stampede.  I have to keep them off my phone and I actively avoid learning about them.
  7. When I start really laughing, I can’t stop.  I have been known to have asthma attacks from laughing too hard.
  8. I still don’t have Facebook on my phone post-election.  I got tired of all of the negativity on all sides and unfollowed a lot of people.
  9. I have a really hard time identifying with music being happily married and with a good life.  That being said, it used to have a huge part of my life and I constantly listen to music even though I have a hard time connecting to it.
  10. I have to work at not being “in my head” so much.  I often didn’t see my friends wave as they passed me in grad school and they would often approach me later and ask if they had offended me or something; I felt pretty bad about that.
  11. I joke that scientists are going to clone my bladder someday.  It is pretty awesome for road trips.
  12. I have a really low tolerance for temperature extremes.  I’m blessed with almost exclusively sweating on my face and scalp so I either look like I’ve been rained on or I’m absolutely freezing.  Right now, I am absolutely freezing.
  13. I’d rather eat the cheese ball with crackers at a holiday party than go to the dessert table.  Every time.
  14. I hate the smell of peanut butter.  I often can smell when someone has had a peanut butter treat when they walk into a room and it makes my head swim.
  15. We basically only have had two boy names for kids we’ve liked our whole marriage.  The last two kids born at church had these names.  They aren’t even very common names!!!
  16. My parents offered us our wedding money to elope.  We decided to accept; they declined.
  17. I worked tech support for several years during and a little after college.  I always go out of my way to be very kind to waitresses and customer support now because I know how big of jerks people can be; I often get asked how long I waitressed because of my behavior (I haven’t ever done it).
  18. I’m a dump chef.  I love trying out lots of different combinations of things.
  19. Most of the guys I have dated thought the dimple below my mouth was a scar.
  20. I love a lot of different genres of books: biographies, self-help, fantasy, young adult, religious, science fiction, poetry, …and I’m sure there are more I can add to this list.
