Blue Dome District in Tulsa, Oklahoma

June 28, 2016road trips, travel
We spent about 24 hours in Tulsa, Oklahoma and now I totally want to go back. The Blue Dome District centers around a route 66 land mark and is a beautiful historic district in Tulsa. We also learned that midwest nice is totally a real thing while visiting! | via Autumn All Along

We spent about 24 hours in Tulsa, Oklahoma and now I totally want to go back.  I really hoped I would be able to meet Sallie from The Urban Acres while there because I am kind of obsessed with her blog!  From my experience in Oklahoma and the subsequent following week in our 3 week road trip, I learned that Midwest Nice is seriously a real thing and I’m a big fan of it.

We started off our trip in the Blue Dome District in Tulsa, Oklahoma which was a historical route 66 landmark!  The district itself is actually only a few blocks wide, but is the most popular artsy district in Tulsa-  I loved all of the murals!!  The restaurants are cute and I loved the architecture in buildings we passed on the way there.  Even better, we were shocked when parking was ample and free since we are from Atlanta.  The Blue Dome used to be a gas station, but currently is undergoing a renovation to be open to the public in the future.

We met Sallie and her husband Andrew up at Dilly Diner.  It is always nerve wracking meeting up with people from the internet, but remember that Midwest nice thing I was talking about?  Well, they are awesome at it and they did a great job picking out the restaurant.  We ate some great food on our road trip, but hands down, we ate our best breakfast here.  I couldn’t find the meal I ordered on the breakfast menu online, but I ordered a children fried steak that had fried eggs served on top and it was on a bed of potato wedges.  The decor was cute and I took a to-go box back to our hotel and gladly ate the other half for a late lunch.  I seriously want to go back ASAP!

During lunch, where Sallie came armed with a present for me (see that cute succulent!?), Andrew and her invited us to their house for a game night at their home.  I was so surprised at first because they totally just threw this together last minute and introduced us to their friends, fed us lots of yummy party food, and we totally felt at home!  Their house is adorable and we loved their friends.  We ended up sharing stories and laughing so hard at high school pranking stories most of the night.  Her chickens were even patient with me as I struggled to properly hold them when I picked them up haha!

We drove around the city, saw a dust storm, and appreciated a little break from the humidity after being in Arkansas.  I thought Oklahoma was really charming and we totally left having the “I could totally live here” conversation a million times.  I loved how much our new friends loved Oklahoma and I realized that I need that contagious love of my home no matter where we live.  I’m a big fan and I definitely want to visit again with more time!

What should we see the next time we go to Oklahoma?
