historic downtown Saint Augustine Florida

August 5, 2015family, road trips, travel

I am fully convinced that Saint Augustine, Florida is one of the most charming places we have ever been.  It was sticky and it was hot, but we learned just from trying to find parking that one day for exploring really wasn’t enough at all.  I had no idea when we drove down that Saint Augustine is the oldest city in the US with history starting in the 1500s and it was really breath taking to see the mix of southern and Spanish style elements!

Devin has one of the sunniest personalities of anyone I know and isn’t one to talk about anything negative ever.  So, when I hear the words “I need a break” from him it really means that he needed a break about a week ago.  I’m happy the timing worked out so great!

We’ve always loved road trips and it is really fun for us to start writing down places we have to visit all over again!  I’m beginning to fall in love with Atlanta for many reasons, but I think the biggest one is learning how close it is to all of these amazing places I have always wanted to visit; growing up in Kentucky, everything was pretty far away. The next time we go to Florida we plan on stopping by citrus farms, the pecan orchards and the ocean 🙂 .

I went there in fourth grade when I lived in florida. I loved the trip and it was the place I bought my first packet of Pokemon cards. Thank you for the pictures. The place still looks the same.

It was. I always think back on that trip. I loved going into the fort and seeing the place. I didn’t get to go near the wall but its amazing to see all those holes in it. I remember reading ghost stories about a man who lost a ring outside the wall and died when he went to find it. I read he still can be seen at times searching for it.

I didn’t know it was so old, either! I’ve spent a lot of time in FL, mostly gulf coast and have never spent any time in ATL. We’ll be there for the first time in a couple of weeks. That ice cream looks/sounds delicious. Glad you’re quick trip was so enjoyable! 🙂

I haven’t spent much time in Florida (only Disney World as a kid), but there are so many interesting places to explore! St. Augustine looks like a great place! Love all of your pictures 🙂

Thank you! I went to Disney World once in high school and I had no idea that Florida had so much to offer. Now we’re planning on making a lot of mini-trips back there 🙂

I loved the pineapple and that gorgeous tile or painting. I too, had no clue it dated back so far. Looks like a fun place to visit. I saw one of your post titles mention adoption. I have two adopted children. One international and one domestic. Feel free to contact me with any questions. We have great open adoptions with both and are traveling back to Ethiopia to visit my son’s family in Oct. You should follow our journey.

We aren’t adopting, but I was adopted and I talked about that in the post. I enjoyed reading more about your adoption journey!
