After reading 16 books during my first quarter this year, I really slowed down this quarter; I only read 7! My overall goal for the year is to read 52 books. I’m still where I want to be for my goal, but I’m hoping to read more during quarter 3 for myself so I have some wiggle room towards the end. Either way, I’m preferring these short book reviews to the longer reviews I used to do. Win win.
I ended up starting a lot of books and just struggled to find interest in getting further in them. I usually try to mix a good combo of fiction and non-fiction and I really wasn’t feeling it the last few months.

2nd quarter short book reviews
📚 The Velveteen Rabbit
This is one of the children’s books I wanted to read this year! I didn’t realize how short it was, but tissues were needed. The whole premise is that you’re finally real when a child loves you, but by the time it happens, you’re a little ragged for wear and old. A very sweet story!
📚 Fairest | Ella Enchanted #2
I wanted to read this book because it was another retold fairytale by the writer of Ella Enchanted- that book is so awesome! I ended up getting through the book in about two days. Cute love story and hints were thrown in for the plot that were small enough not to ruin the story. I didn’t enjoy the book as much as Ella Enchanted and I won’t be re-reading it like I have with that, but it was still very good and I’d recommend reading it.
📚 We Are Okay
I didn’t finish this book. It just felt pretty depressing and then there was a pretty detailed teen sex scene. I didn’t read a lot of summaries before picking it up, but if you’re into LGTB Young Adult lit, then this one is for you.
📚 Scarlet | Lunar Chronicles #2
I read the first book in this series last year and really enjoyed it, but didn’t wait for the waiting list at the library to read it soon. Scarlet is based on little red riding hood. I really enjoyed this series and ended up reading the rest of the series in about a week.
📚 Cress | Lunar Chronicles #3
This book is based off of Rapunzel and this was probably one of my favorites of the series! All of the characters have great story lines and since the books are large, loads of time for character development.
📚 Winter | Lunar Chronicles #4
Winter is based off of Snow White. I related to this character the most of the whole series. The book follows the Lunar revolution with a lot of really adorable love stories intertwined. The series is family friendly, and even though this book ends up being very detailed, I did feel like the details were necessary for the series to not finish up too quickly.
📚 Fantastical Beauty (no longer listed for sale)
This short book is the introduction to a fashion system based on fairy tales. I love stuff like this and after being interested in more restrictive systems in the past, I love the idea of dressing yourself to create a visual story.
